PrettyFoodie's Favourite Food & Food Haunts

While there is beauty profile, which is basically a list of holy grail skincare products and cosmetics that a beauty blogger reaches for everyday and would consider herself dead without them, a foodie profile similarly lists a food blogger's all-time favourites and food that he/she can't live without. Here's mine:

Staples: (without listing brands)
1. Mee (or what's more sophisticated-ly known as noodles), which means I'd rather eat permed hair instant noodles, spaghetti, mee kia (translated as thin noodles, i.e. in wanton mee) or sek mee (translated as thick noodles, a.k.a round noodles, yellow noodles or egg noodles).

2. Bread (give me bread anytime) - soft white, wholemeal, banana, chocolate chip, toasted, garlic, cinnamon honey, jian bao (translated as Chinese-style French baguette), donut/doughnut

3. Potatoes - no fries, just potatoes. Baked, boiled, cooked, BBQ, etc.

Yes, I hate rice. I just hate rice. I would only make exception for olive rice and onion rice. For some reason, my mum gave me fork, spoon and knife, not soup spoon and chopsticks. Perhaps this explains the twisted Western taste bud that many will frown upon.

Yes, I basically hate soup too. Noodles must be taken dry. I only make exceptions for Western style (familiarly recognized as Campbell-style) thick, creamy seafood or mushroom soups.

I don't know, mum never cooked much soups.

Type of Cuisine:
1. Japanese

2. Western

3. Shanghainese

Hated type of cuisine:
1. French (except their breads)

2. Beijing

3. Macau

4. Indonesian

5. Some Hong Kong

6. Some of Indian

7. Japanese Ramen (yes, in particular, because I don't like soups)

Favourites flavours:
1. Spicy

2. Sweet and spicy

3. Sour and spicy

4. Sweet and Sour

5. Sweet and salty

6. Salty

7. Bittersweet (i.e. dark chocolates and espresso)

8. Spicy (Tried and tested in Beijing, I can't live without this.)

Hated flavours:
1. Bitter

2. Salty till Bitter

3. Bitter till sour

4. Sour

Mouth-watering food:
- All sorts of bread
- All sorts of cakes
- All sorts of pastries
- All sorts of cheesecakes
- All dishes with salmon, especially raw
- All dishes with sauces, especially thick and dark
- All sorts of pies
- All dishes with chocolate
- Durians and all dishes with durian
- All ice creams (Western cream, Italian gelato, Japanese ice, Korean ice, Chinese potong)
- All sorts of eggs (sunny-side-up, hard boiled, and specifically McD scrambled)
- All dishes with egg

Yes, when I say all, I mean all.

Durian puffs, durian mochi
Grilled Mackerel
Roti Prata (Apple Cinnamon, Mushroom Cheese)

Strange that despite being the mall foodie and babelicious girl who often enough gets treated at restaurants, my favourite food is just simple bread, cheese, (cheesebread is the best), street side durian (I really don't care if it's D24, XO or Mao Shan or what, just love anything bittersweet), and wanton mee. I'd die without that char siew, black sauce and mee kia.

Perhaps the only indulgence I will not reject is salmon sashimi, teriyaki chicken, Haagen Dazs, fine chocolate and fine coffee.

I know many people may be offended, but we have to respect each others' taste buds, and I only can post 5. I restrict my Tops Lists to 5 just so I don't get confused. Do post your own Top 5 list. I luuuuurrrrve reading lists! hahaha. I just love these lists.)

Curry Puffs
Honestly, I only have two on the list, and they are:
(the one that got caught for tax evasion in Ang Mo Kio),
and 1A.

I am so sorry again. There just isn't anything else that I know of, which is worth mentioning. I just want to say that Old Chang Kee is by account good, in my opinion. This belongs to the list of foods that I do not get the hype about.
